Former Penn State football stars Trevor Williams and AQ Shipley signed with new NFL teams this week.
Williams signed with the Philadelphia Eagles for the second time Monday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He previously joined the team on a reserve/future contract in January.
After starting as a wide receiver in Happy Valley and eventually becoming a cornerback, Williams went undrafted out of Penn State and signed a contract with the then-San Diego Chargers. He started 26 games for San Diego over three seasons but was waived by the squad in 2019. He eventually joined the Arizona Cardinals that October.
Williams has 39 career games in the NFL under his belt. He’s recorded 110 total tackles, 22 pass deflections, and three interceptions.
Shipley, meanwhile, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers shortly after Williams’ agreement, according to another report by Schefter.
After a productive career at Penn State, Shipley was drafted in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He’s since played for the Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens, and the Arizona Cardinals.
Shipley has spent the past five seasons in Arizona, starting games in all of those years other than 2018 when he tore his ACL. He’ll now be reunited with his former head coach Bruce Arians in Tampa Bay, who he spent three years playing for with the Cardinals.
