Down one in the ninth, Amed Rosario delivered with a walkoff home run for a 4-3 win over the Yankees. >> Box score

Six things to know from Friday’s Game 2

1. Trailing 3-2 in the ninth inning, Jeff McNeil worked a walk off of Aroldis Chapman. After Billy Hamilton came in as a pinch-runner and stole second base, Amed Rosario blasted a Chapman slider over the wall in left, giving the Mets an improbable win.

It was the first time ever the Mets swept the Yankees in a doubleheader.

2. In his first game back on the mound since returning from his left shoulder fatigue IL stint, David Peterson looked sharp at the outset.

After two perfect innings, Peterson ran into trouble in the third inning, starting with a leadoff walk to Jordy Mercer. He allowed RBI singles to Erik Kratz and Aaron Hicks and walked three batters in the inning, including walking Gary Sanchez to force in a run. He was able to buckle down and roll a Mike Tauchman double play ball to end the inning.

Peterson gave the Mets four innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits while walking three and striking out three.

3. Dominic Smith continues to be the Mets’ most prolific run producer. Smith drove in Michael Conforto in the bottom of the first inning, lining a single off the wall in left field. He was caught in a run down and tagged out between first and second, but it still put the Mets up 1-0.

Smith would also double in the bottom of the fourth inning.

4. Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Brandon Nimmo cut the Yankees’ lead in half with an RBI double to left field, slashing one over the head of Tauchman to score Luis Guillorme.

5. Catcher Ali Sanchez, batting out of the nine-hole, recorded his first-career major-league hit in the bottom of the third inning, grounding a single up the middle and into center field.

6. Pete Alonso had a tough night, going 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts. He also showed some frustration after his final strikeout, snapping his bat over his knee as he walked back to the dugout.

What’s next

The Mets and Yankees continue their jam-packed Subway Series weekend on Saturday, facing the Yankees at 1:05 p.m. The Mets haven’t announced their starter just yet, but J.A. Happ will take the ball for the Yankees. Coverage on SNY begins at 12:30 p.m.
