Unless the Mets strike up talks with someone quickly, all the local trade chatter Monday will be centered on the Bronx.
Conversations with multiple sources across leagues and teams Sunday turned up no evidence that the Mets have gained any traction on any kind of deal.
Internally, some Mets decision-makers have conceded that while the team is talented, it might not be good enough to justify trading prospects and going all in. A playoff appearance is far from out of the question with the team as currently composed, and it sounds like that’s the way it will have to happen.
Perhaps GM Brodie Van Wagenen will find a deal on Monday to address the team’s pitching needs. But it’s clear that nothing is brewing yet.
