NHL Referees were mic’d up for this weekend’s Stanley Cup Playoff action!
Highlights include an exchange between referee Chris Rooney and Vegas goaltender Robin Lehner and Gord Dwyer explaining a non-call to Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck. There’s also a good discussion between Rooney and Ryan Reaves of the Vegas Golden Knights.
“You missed a couple [of calls] down low,” Reaves tells the official.
“I missed a couple?” asks Rooney. “Oh!”
“I think one I owe you, though. That’s it,” replies Reeves.
There’s also some great examples of the on-ice communication between officials and players before a penalty is called.
“Helmet! Helmet! Helmet!” yells one referee after Islander forward Anders Lee continues play without his bucket, reminding him to retrieve the helmet or head to the bench.
