The first postseason of the fall season gets underway this week as both boys and girls golf teams learned of their regional assignments.
Under the current COVID-19 pandemic and according to the IHSA, there will be no state tournament. However, both boys and girls’ golf teams will be able to take part in a regional and sectional tournament.
On the boys’ side in Class 2A, Centralia will host a sectional on Tuesday, October 13, where regionals from Roxana, Mascoutah, Paris and Mt. Vernon Regionals will feed into.
Participating teams at the Mt. Vernon Regional on Tuesday (today) will be Benton, Carbondale, Carterville, Harrisburg, Herrin, Marion, Massac County, Mt. Vernon and Murphysboro.
In Class 1A, Zeigler-Royalton will host a sectional next Tuesday, featuring regional winners from Mt. Carmel, Okawville, Waterloo and West Frankfort.
Participating schools at the West Frankfort Regional include: Anna-Jonesboro, Cobden, Eldorado, Hardin County, Goreville, Johnston City, Hamilton County, Norris City-Omaha-Enfield, Vienna, West Frankfort and Zeigler-Royalton.
A handful of local teams are at the Okawville regional, including Du Quoin, Pinckneyville, Nashville and Woodlawn
The girls’ postseason got underway Monday, where in Class 2A, Marion was one of three other schools to host a regional that will feed into the Champaign Centennial Sectional at the University of Illinois Golf Course next Tuesday.
Teams playing at Kokopelli are: Alton, Belleville East and Belleville West, Collinsville, Edwardsville, Granite City, Marion, Mascoutah, Mt. Vernon, O’Fallon and Troy Triad.
Other regional sites heading to Champaign are: Decatur, Minooka and Pekin.
In Class 1A, Salem will host a sectional on Monday, October 12 and will feature regional winners from Mt. Carmel, Alton, Carbondale and Waterloo Gibault Catholic.
The Mt. Carmel Regional on Wednesday, October 7 will include: Altamont, Carmi-White County, Effingham, Effingham St. Anthony, Eldorado, Fairfield, Harrisburg, Hamilton County, Robinson, Teutopolis, Waltonville and Woodlawn.
And the Alton Marquette Regional will include: Carbondale, which includes, Anna-Jonesboro, Benton, Carbondale, Carterville, Du Quoin, Goreville, Herrin, Johnston City, Massac County, Murphysboro, Pinckneyville, West Frankfort and Zeigler-Royalton.
