El Dorado’s tennis teams will travel to Hot Springs Lakeside to compete in the 5A-South Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday.
First-year coach Rex Hayes said his young squad has gotten better and better throughout the season.
“The season went very well in terms of improvement. Every single student has improved leaps and bounds,” said Hayes. “I’d like to call out Caroline Byrd, Kevin Beeman and Levi Shaffer. Caroline and Levi’s willingness to try new things and learn new skills will take them far. Kevin just picked up a racquet this past year and is really starting to become a solid player.”
Hayes didn’t heap of lot of heavy expectations on El Dorado’s program this season. He hopes to use it as a stepping-stone for the future.
“This year is going to be a great learning experience for a lot of these younger players,” he said. “We got some tough seeding with the likes of Lake Hamilton, Lakeside and Texarkana, but I’m hoping my kids see the level that they can achieve. Team goals are going to be that I want to see a desire and willingness to win. Regardless of score I want them to be trying to win every point.”
